What is Copal?
Copal is an energetic name for a resin that comes from various trees of the Torchwood (Burseraceae) family, which also includes the Palo Santo, Myrrh and Frankincense trees.
The most common tree for copal resin in Mexico and Central America is Protium Copal.
The resin was used for spiritual purposes by the pre-Columbian Mesoamerican Maya, Inca and Aztec indigenous peoples.
The wonderful sweet aroma of Copal Gold Resin will open your heart chakra and has a relaxing effect. Great for energy cleansing. This Resin is unique in many areas!

The aroma

Spiritual Ceremonies with Copal
The use of copal for sacred purposes dates back to the ancient cultures of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica.
For clearing the energy in a ceremonial room (or any other space):
Move around the room while you "smudge" the smoke and spread it where it is needed, energetically. Remember your intention!
To create a thorough energy cleansing, close all windows and doors, let the room fill with strong smoke and leave it for some time.
Avoid inhaling dense smoke.
For energetic cleansing of yourself or ceremony participants
Move the Incense Cup over and around the head, down and around the body, through all the chakras, and even under the arms and feet, as old energies can get stuck in the oddest places.
We can also call it an energy cleansing shower of our 4 body layers, which are just as important as when we take a "normal" physical shower.
The body layers we have are known as "The Four Bodies":
The Physical, The Emotional, The Mental and The Spiritual.
History and current use of Copal
The word Copal comes from the Nahuatl word Copalli, which means "Incense".
The use of copal for sacred purposes dates back to ancient pre-Columbian culture.
In the shamanic tradition, Copal strengthens the connection between people and the non-physical world, also called "The Great Mystery".
-and it symbolizes awareness and wisdom.
It is associated with the God Tlaloc and the Goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who are the Gods of water, fertility and creation.
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Today, Copal is also used in Mexico to celebrate "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead).
It is a day of celebration of the gift we call life.
It is a common belief that on this day the old loved and missed souls will return to visit their family and friends.
To help them find homes, Copal is burned in homes and churches, as well as used on grave sites with candles and flowers.
